General Information

 

Application Process


The application process consists of three parts:

Failure to meet a deadline or to submit a complete application will result in elimination from the internship program.

1. A three-page student application form. 
DUE: FEBRUARY 19, 2010 at 5:00 p.m.

2. Recommendations from two faculty members in Human     Environmental Studies and/or your minor area (e.g., Business, Art) who know you well. Faculty members will return the recommendation forms directly to the Internship Coordinator. DUE: FEBRUARY 19, 2010.
 

Internship Policies


1.
Obtain employment at an approved site.

2. Candidate must have successfully completed the internship class, AMD 330, with a grade of C or better.

3. Candidate must have completed 12 hours of course work within the department by starting date of internship.

4. Candidate must be a declared major.

5. Candidate must accrue 300 working hours in order to successfully complete the internship program.

6. The internship must be completed summer semester. THE REQUIRED NUMBER OF HOURS MUST BE COMPLETED BY AUGUST 2nd. (SEE BELOW)

SUMMER (10): MAY 17 - AUGUST 2 
A. BY MAY 28TH:
     1. Must have site selected.
 

Intern Evaluation


Candidate will be graded based upon:
1. An extensive research paper and/or project.
2. Weekly e-mail communication with Internship Coordinator.
3. Results of a site visit or communication with candidate's immediate supervisor.
4. Employer evaluation of intern performance.
5. Completion of learning objectives.
6. Completion of the required number of hours.
 

Evaluation Policies


1.
The research paper and/or project, learning objectives, employee evaluation, and paycheck stubs must be received by the Internship Coordinator no later than August 2, 2010.

2. If you are owed time (i.e. in between pay periods), have your supervisor write a note supplying the Internship Coordinator with the time you have/will have accumulated up to August 2nd.

3. 5 points per day late will be deducted from the research paper or project.

4. 2 points will be deducted for each hour you fall short of the required 300 hours by the established deadline.

5. 5 points will be deducted for each day the weekly e-mail communication is late. E-mail communication will be due by 12:00 each Monday starting the first Monday after beginning the internship.
