The College of Education and Human Services consists of five departments and over 185 faculty and staff who are proud to be at the forefront in the preparation of professionals for the twenty-first century. Our goal for this site is to be a useful resource to you as you explore the many diverse and exciting programs, resources and events available in the college.
Counseling & Special Education
The study of Counseling and Special Education will help you to develop a knowledge and understanding of individual differences, life span issues and working with others. The programs offered emphasize working with clients and students as individuals within a group setting and serving them throughout the life span.
Educational Leadership
The Department of Educational Leadership offers a full range of graduate programs to prepare individuals for effective performance in roles as educational leaders in schools, communities, and institutions of higher education. Students develop on a continuum from scholar-practitioner to practitioner-scholar. Programs, scholarship and service, infused with humanism and diversity, are based upon theoretical knowledge and practical skills.
Human Environmental Studies
The Department of HEV offers programs in human development and family studies, design and merchandising, and foods and nutrition. The programs within environmental studies prepare students for a variety of careers in apparel, merchandising and design, nutrition, dietetics, foodservice, commercial and residential interior design, early childhood education, and family services.
Recreation, Parks & Leisure Services Administration
The mission of RPL is to provide quality professional preparation, scholarly and professional service, and applied research built upon the liberal arts foundation of the University. Our commitment is to undergraduate and graduate students, alumni, the University, the leisure service profession and the community, emphasizing human service partnerships.
Teacher Education & Professional Development
The Department of Teacher Education and Professional Development (TEPD) at CMU is responsible for preparing teaching candidates who have the required knowledge (content), teaching skills (pedagogy) and dispositions to have a positive impact on student learning, in order to become effective teachers.
