Apparel Design
The Apparel Design student
studies the conceptualization, design and production of
textile and apparel product. The Apparel Design program offers exciting
opportunities in the design and production of men's, women's,
and children's fashion apparel and accessories, protective
clothing for industry, functional apparel for special market
segments, and theatre costuming. Additional opportunities
are found in fashion illustration, journalism, aeronautics,
automotive, and home furnishings. The
curriculum includes courses in apparel construction, flat
pattern, illustration, and computer aided design. State of
the art technology guides our curricular process.
A number of opportunities are available to the Apparel
Design student to supplement and enhance their curriculum.
The faculty regularly offer a summer study tour to New
York City. A required internship provides
valuable on-site work experience. Students may choose to do
part of their program elsewhere. Through a cooperative
effort, students are able to substitute selected courses at
New York City's Fashion Institute of Technology, the
American College in London, and the Paris Fashion Institute
for HEV courses. Students are highly encouraged to consider
these options as part of their educational experience.
A common core of courses shared with Apparel Merchandising
allows students to concentrate in both areas and increases their
opportunities for future employment.
