Teacher Education and Professional Development Department (TEPD)

STUDENT PROTOCOL 2007-2008:

Requirements:

  • Your Midtier placement can be viewed by logging onto your student information sheet on line.  All host school information will be available on the web site.  Placements are not official until you have met the teacher and/or principal.  Midtier students must call the host teacher at least 4 days prior to the first scheduled visit.

  • Your Midtier experience is to be extended over the semester. Exceptions must be cleared through your instructor and the Midtier coordinator.

Attendance:

  • Go to the school on the day and time indicated. The principal and host teacher know you are coming.

  • You may change the day/time of your Midtier placement if the host teacher agrees to the change.  All changes will be recorded at the Midtier office on your yellow diversity verification form located in your Midtier packet.  Any changes made after your verification sheet has been turned in to the Midtier office must be cleared by the Midtier Coordinator.

  • If you are ill and unable to be at school for your assigned day/time, call the supervising teacher before school starts in the morning to let him/her know that you will not be in attendance. You may not use email to contact your host teacher if you are going to be absent from your host school.  You will need to arrange and make up your missed time.

  • One unexcused absence or two late arrivals, or any combination, may result in an immediate dismissal from your Midtier field placement.

Concerns:

  • If problems arise resulting from this placement, please let your instructor and the Midtier coordinator know immediately.

  • This office will be monitoring your experience in conjunction with your course instructor.  Keep your instructor and the Midtier coordinator posted of any concerns that you might have during this field experience.

Attire:

  • You are required to wear your picture nametag at all times while at your host school.

  • Dress professionally: dress slack/pants, shirt/blouse, females – skirts of appropriate discrete length. NO: T-shirts, hats, bare midriff, nose and/or tongue rings. Rings can only be worn in the ears. Check the school’s dress code for further local restrictions.  Please adhere to these policies, as you are a guest at the PK-12 school.

  • Host teachers have been informed to send any student home if she/he is not dressed appropriately, and following the above guidelines.  If you are sent home twice from your Midtier placement you will be removed from the school and the Midtier experience.

Professionalism:

  • Please do not chew gum while in the PK-12 schools.

  • Internet use while at your host school is limited to K-12 school business only. You are not to use field experience hours to check your email, browse sites or conduct personal searches. Your host teacher is aware of this Midtier policy.

  • Do not discuss your personal life with students except as experiences, which may add to instruction. Students may have difficulty interpreting your intentions and see you more as a peer than a teacher.

  • You are an ambassador of Central Michigan University and the College of Education and Human Services. Put your best foot forward and enjoy this opportunity to pursue your goal of becoming a teacher.

All Midtier requirements must be completed in order to be a candidate for student teaching.
