Welcome to the New B.S. in Education Degree Option Informational Site!     Under Construction

Beginning with the 2007-2008 CMU Bulletin, requirements for the B.S. in Education degree have changed for Elementary, Secondary, and Secondary Special Education programs (Elementary Special Education remains the same).  Returning students are encouraged to view changes.

Advisors in the Center for Student Services are available throughout the summer to assist students considering a change to the new requirements. You may call the Center for Student Services at (989) 774-3309 to set up a phone, or in-person, appointment.  Please review the summary of changes below and then contact CSS to schedule an appointment with an academic advisor.

Students in Elementary, Secondary, Secondary Special Education programs from earlier bulletin years (2006 and before) may wish to review the changes to determine whether they would be at an advantage by changing to the 2007-2008 bulletin and completing all requirements according to the 2007-2008 bulletin.  Making such a change would require the re-signing of major(s) and minor(s) according to the 2007-2008 bulletin and the completion of SPE 504.

Specific changes are as follows:

The elimination of a number of “other degree requirements” for Elementary, Secondary, and Secondary Special Education programs.

The addition of a major/minor option for Elementary:  Option 7 is described as follows:

“Basic Program:  A major in one of Integrated Science (Elementary), Mathematics (Elementary), Social Studies, Language Arts, History, English AND and the Planned Program minor.”

Elementary Education students should note that the existing major/minor options one through six have not changed.
