Teacher Education Admission
Requirements
Application form for Teacher Education: www.ehs.cmich.edu/css/admission/frmapplication.doc Degree: A completed bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited university or college. Grade Point Average: A minimum GPA of 2.70 calculated on a minimum of the most recent 45 graded semester hours taken at regionally accredited institutions. Completion of competencies in written English, Oral English and Mathematics. For admission to the Teacher Education Program, ENG 101 or ENG 201 (or its equivalent), must be completed with a minimum grade of "B-" (2.70). The Oral English and Mathematics competencies must be completed with a minimum grade of "C" (2.00). Refer to CMU Bulletin for other grade and course requirements and options at https://bulletins.cmich.edu/2004/ug/gen-acad/comp-req.asp Completion of CMU course, EDU 107 - Introduction to Teaching, OR transfer equivalent, with a minimum grade of "B" (3.00). https://bulletins.cmich.edu/by_subject.asp Major and Minor: Teaching major and minor forms from approved academic departmental advisors. A 2.70 GPA is required in each major and minor for certification. SEE: Majors and Minors at this site. CERTIFICATION ONLY candidates will receive major/minor forms through the formal CSS program evaluation process. Michigan Test for Teacher Certification Basic Skills Test (MBST): Required by CMU and the State of Michigan for all individuals pursuing teacher certification. Passing scores required in all three sections: mathematics, reading and writing. Online registration is available at www.mttc.nesinc.com. If you have already taken and passed the MBST, you DO NOT need to repeat it. Please have scores sent to CMU. 45-hour Pre-professional Experience: Documentation of 45 clock hours of in-classroom experiences. The form is available at http://www.ehs.cmich.edu/css. (Substitute teaching may be accepted and should be documented using the required form.)
