Facts about Teacher Certification In Michigan

Student Teaching

 

Michigan law requires that a person employed in an elementary or secondary school with instructional responsibilities should hold a valid teaching certificate, permit or vocational/authorization for positions assigned.  

To be eligible for an initial teaching certificate a student needs to complete Exit Candidacy.  Completion of Exit Candidacy involves successful completion of student teaching, satisfying requirements for a bachelor's degree, passing appropriate subject area tests and having the appropriate combination of teachable majors and/or minors.

Types of Certificates Available:

Administrative Certificate (initial license)

Provisional Certificate (initial teaching license)

Professional Education Certificate (advanced teaching license) 

Temporary Vocational Authorization (initial vocational license)

Occupational Education Certificate (advanced vocational license)

18-Hour Planned Programs

Master's Programs
