Facts about Teacher Certification In Michigan

Professional Certificate

  • requires completion of 18 semester hours in a CMU planned course of study, 18 hours of study completed toward a Master's degree or completion of a Master's degree and 3 years of successful teaching experience within the validity and grade level of the provisional certificate

  • a reading requirement must also be met; elementary requires 6 semester hours of the CMU equivalent EDU 330 and EDU 431, secondary requires 3 semester hours of the CMU equivalent EDU 450

  • to obtain an initial professional certificate application, click on the link below, or contact EHS Center for Student Services at (989) 774-3309

  • renewal of the professional certificate must be done through the Michigan Department of Education (517) 373-3310
