Facts about Teacher Certification In Michigan

Provisional Certificate

initial
teaching license/credential issued in Michigan upon successful
completion of an approved teacher preparation program and passage of
the Michigan Test for Teacher Certification (MTTC). In Michigan
individuals are required to successfully complete a course in
cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and First Aid prior to being
issued an initial teaching certificate. Central Michigan
University will not recommend any teacher candidate for
certification without assuring that the CPR and First Aid
requirement for certification has been met. This requirement
is effective for any individual seeking initial teaching
certification after June 30, 2004.

up to 6 years, and can be renewed twice, during which 3 years of successful teaching must be
completed along with additional advanced study totaling 18 semester
hours in a planned course of study
