Planning Guide:  Elementary/Secondary Education 18 Semester Hour Planned Program

The purpose of this program is to provide a flexible, educationally relevant planned program for elementary/secondary certified teachers.  This program is designed for teachers who do not plan to pursue a master's degree or added major and/or minor (endorsement).  To pursue the 18 hour planned program, you need to be admitted to the CMU's College of Graduate Studies as a non-degree student.  Graduate Studies is located in Foust 100 and can be reached at (989) 774-4723.  Most of the credits on an 18 hours planned program will NOT be applicable to a master's degree program.

The CMU 18 hour planned program is designed to assist elementary/secondary teachers in strengthening their current major and minor teaching areas and expanding their expertise in working with a variety of students in the classroom,  there are several categories in which coursework is needed for an 18 hour planned program.  Programs should be:

 prepared, submitted and approved prior to the completion of any coursework

 planned with assistance from the EHS Center for Student Services, (989) 774-3309

Only three semester hours of workshop credit will be accepted.  To get those hours accepted a student must provide the following information:

days and hours the workshop meets

content of the workshop

name of institution providing credits

Transfer credit will be limited to six semester hours.  For a course to be considered for substitution for another institution, a student must provide the following information:

course number, title, number of credits, name of institution providing credits and a course description

Only courses completed after the issuance date of your provisional certificate can be accepted.  When the courses are completed, and when you have taught successfully for three years, please file an application for your professional certificate with EHS Center for Student Services, Ronan 204, Central Michigan University, Mt.
