CMU Midtier Program

Midtier Field Experience

Each Visit:

  • Host teacher will initial and verify midtier student attendance form
  • Throughout your field experience:

    • Submit journal reflection on Blackboard according to due dates shown on Bb

    Week 1

    • Meet the class
    • Learn the names of the students
    • Go over dress code policy and any other school procedures
    • If possible meet the principal
    • Observe classroom activities
    • Fill out attendance record and have it initialed by host teacher

    Week 2 

    • Review names of all students
    • Draw physical layout of the room (secondary optional)
    • If available, begin working with students individually
    • Interact with students during class changes, outside classroom area or lunchroom
    • Fill out attendance record and have it initialed by host teacher

    Week 3

    • Midtier coordinator in attendance at university class
    • Complete Placement Verification assignment on Bb
    • Questions/concerns on field placements

    Week 4-6

    • Present first lesson to the class (lesson plan must be given to host teacher at least 24 hours prior to the presentation of the lesson)
    • Continue working with students individually and in small groups
    • Mid-Term evaluation due at the university following the 5th week
    • Host teacher completes first lesson evaluation form; bring all originals to the midtier class at the university
    • Lesson evaluation due with typed copy of lesson plan attached
    • Fill out attendance record and have it initialed by host teacher

    Week of 7-9

    • Present second lesson to the class (lesson plan must be given to host teacher at least 24 hours prior to the presentation of the lesson)
    • Host teacher completes second lesson evaluation form
    • Continue working with students individually and in small groups
    • Present additional class lessons if available
    • Fill out attendance record and have it initialed by host teacher

    Week of 10

    • Attendance sheet completed, totaled and initialed by host teacher
    • Diversity check list to be completed on Blackboard
    • Second lesson evaluation form due; bring all originals to the midtier class at the university
    • Lesson evaluation due with typed copy of lesson plan attached
    • Final evaluation due; bring all originals to the midtier class at the university
