Undergraduate and Graduate Research

Dr. Hildebrandt provides mentorship to both undergraduate and graduate students conducting research. Students are encouraged to write student grants, present their research at state and national conferences, and collaboratively prepare manuscripts for submission to peer review journals.

All graduate students who work with Dr. Hildebrandt are required to either:

1. Prepare their Plan B paper as a “Review Article” which will be submitted to a peer reviewed journal according to the author guidelines for the target journal. It is not required that the manuscript be accepted. Dr. Hildebrandt will be responsible for addressing all reviewer’s comments, subsequent edits, and galley review following submission to the journal. If by chance the article is not accepted, Dr. Hildebrandt will be responsible for resubmission to another journal.

2. Prepare their Thesis as a “Research Article” which will be submitted to a peer reviewed journal.

Plan B paper and thesis topics are determined based on consultation with Dr. Hildebrandt. The topic selected is based upon the student’s interests, current professional setting, long-term professional goals, and Dr. Hildebrandt’s areas of expertise.

It is highly recommended that students contact current and previous graduate students who have conducted thesis research and written Plan B papers with Dr. Hildebrandt. Please contact Dr. Hildebrandt (hilde1LA@cmich.edu or 989-774-2514) to obtain contact information for alumni and current graduate students.
