FACULTY POSITION IN HUMAN DEVELOPMENT AND FAMILY STUDIES
Department of Human Environmental Studies Position Description: Full-time, Assistant Professor (temporary position) in Human Development and Family Studies beginning August 21, 2008. This is a one-year appointment, with the possibility of the position being renewed and/or becoming a tenure-track line. Primary responsibilities will be the instruction of undergraduate courses in infancy, early childhood and lifespan development. Additional duties include advising students. Qualifications: Required: *Doctorate required, or ABD with degree awarded by August 2008 with at least one degree in child development, human development, family studies or related discipline; *Competence in subject matter as evidenced by relevant course work; *Evidence of teaching effectiveness at the university level; *Affiliation with relevant professional organizations; *Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Preferred: *Relevant professional experience working with children and families; *Evidence of potential for successful research and scholarly activities; *Demonstrated commitment to diversity. The Human Development and Family Studies (HDFS) area includes 21 faculty positions, 14 of which are tenured and tenure-track, serving over 1900 majors and minors. We offer academic programs in Child Development, Family Studies (including two teacher certification programs), Gerontology, Human Development, and Family Life and Human Sexuality. HDFS also offers an MA in Human Development and Family Studies and a Gerontology Graduate Certificate. HDFS includes the Human Growth and Development Laboratory (HGDL), an early childhood setting serving approximately 90 children and their families in several programs such as Head Start, Michigan School Readiness Programs, and a tuition-based preschool. The HGDL serves as a research and training site for faculty and students. HDFS is located in the Department of Human Environmental Studies (HEV) which has 27 full-time tenure-track positions and serves approximately 3,000 majors and minors. FACULTY POSITION IN APPAREL MERCHANDISING AND DESIGN
Department of Human Environmental Studies Position Description: Full-time, 10 month tenure track Assistant Professor position in Apparel Merchandising and Design beginning August 18, 2008. Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in at least two of the following areas: apparel product development, computer-aided-design for apparel, or textiles. The position requires the maintenance of a scholarly record to include publications and grant writing, as well as advising students, providing service to department, college, and university and professional involvement through appropriate professional organizations. Qualifications: Required: *Doctorate required, or ABD with degree awarded before August 2008 with at least one degree in textiles and clothing or related area; *Evidence of teaching effectiveness; *Evidence of potential for successful research and scholarly activities; *Evidence of competence in working with cad software or design related technology; and *Evidence of excellent oral and written communication skills. Preferred: *Professional industry experience; *Existing ties to industry; and *Record of active participation in professional organizations Related Information: Central Michigan University seeks a qualified professional to join an energetic team. Available for teaching and research purposes are a body scanner, walk-in environmental chamber and thermal cameras. Strong internship placements and opportunities for study abroad provide a competitive edge in the job market demonstrated by over 90% placement rate of our graduates.
