Welcome to Gerontology
The Gerontology program at Central Michigan University is an interdisciplinary approach to the holistic study of aging. CMU offers a minor and a graduate certificate in Gerontology.
Both the minor and graduate certificate were carefully designed by interdisciplinary faculty comprised of distinguished and award-winning professors who work together to offer exceptional education, service and research in physical, mental and social conditions of the fastest growing segment of this country’s population—older adults. They draw from many academic disciplines including health sciences, sociology, psychology, and human development.
With the refined analytical and creative skills developed from studying Gerontology at CMU, you will become a broad-minded professional with the skills to design programs, activities, and consumer products that assist older adults and their families in maintaining and maximizing the richness of late life. Graduates have discovered career opportunities in a number of settings, including senior centers, retirement centers, nursing homes, adult day programs, banks, agencies on aging, fitness programs, and community mental health agencies.
