Feedback

Families are an important part of the Human Growth and Development Laboratory.  We recognize that parents are a child's first and most important teacher.  Further, we know that we can best support and facilitate a child's development only by involving families.  Your involvement is crucial to the success of our program.  How may you come involved?

Observation

Families are encouraged to observe their child in the classroom as often as possible.  We feel that our observation booths provide adults with the unique opportunity of observing their child without the child being aware of or influenced by their presence.  You can gain some wonderful understanding about how special your child is.  Please plan to observe your child at least once each semester.

Visits

We love to have parents/guardians visit our classrooms.  We often ask you to help with classroom activities such as face painting, sharing a talent during group time, or discussing with the children what you do in  your occupation.  Because we have such tremendous student support in our classroom, we do not ask for classroom involvement on a daily basis, but you are always welcome,  If you have an idea about something you would like to share with your child's class, or just want to spend a day, please let the lead teacher know.  We'd love to have you participate.

Field Trips

We plan approximately three field trips per class per semester.  They include walking field trips where we need adults to help us by holding children's hands.  We always solicit adult help in advance and let you know our destination, the time-frame of the planned trip, and what your role will play.  The children always walk or use ICTC as transportation to and from field trips.  Once again, each child  will wear a seat belt while on the bus and we will use notes to provide all of the informational details

Parent Meetings/Activities

A variety of Parent Meetings/Activities are scheduled through out the year.  The schedule will be handed out at the beginning of each semester.

Family Bulletin Board

On our Family Bulletin Board, located in the front entryway, we post important and interesting information for parents of young children.  New information is provided monthly.  Adults are encouraged to take a moment and read the information there.

Parent-Teacher Conferences and Home Visits

Parent-Teacher Conferences and Home Visits are scheduled through out the academic year.  We carefully plan for these conferences/visits so that we may share information with you regarding your child's development.  In addition, the conferences/visits provide an important time for you to share your own insights regarding your child.  Parents and teachers, as a team, can then set appropriate goals which will support and facilitate the child's development.

The Lending Library

The Lending Library offers books and magazines of particular interest to parents of young children as well as other materials.  These materials may be checked out for two weeks.  The library is located in the entry to the Lab.  The index box holds the cards for check out.  If we don’t have a book that you found helpful and feel other parents would also enjoy, please let us know and we will try to add it to our library.  We also have back packs with take home activities for your use.

Feedback

Your feedback is important to the successful functions of the Laboratory.  Please consider scheduling a time to meet with the teacher to share your concerns, questions or feedback that you may have.  We truly welcome your involvement and will strive to promptly respond to your requests.
