Central Michigan University's Human Growth and Development Laboratory is sponsored by the Area of Human Development and Family Studies and the Department of Human Environmental Studies. As a part of the Human Development and Family Studies Area, the Human Growth and Development Laboratory is a facility for training and for student and faculty research.
Within the Lab setting, there are three different programs. The Tuition program is for three or four year old children from the University or community in which parents pay for their children to attend a four day per week preschool session. The School Readiness Program is a free state-funded preschool program for four year old children from the University or community. Children attend half-day sessions, four days per week. Children qualify for the program through meeting criteria from a Department of Education list. The Extended Day Head Start Program is a free federally funded program serving children who are three and four. This program serves children who meet income qualifications and have a parent who is a full time student. Each program focuses on supporting the individual child, helping them to learn and grow. Teachers meet regularly to plan goals for all programs in the laboratory, and implement those goals through high quality programming.
