Calendar

The Human Growth and Development Laboratory follows the University calendar. School Readiness and Tuition Preschool children do not attend during final examination week and University holidays. Head Start children attend everyday (Monday through Thursday) that Central Michigan University is in session (Fall, Spring, & Summer I), including final exam weeks. In the event that Central Michigan University classes are cancelled due to severe weather conditions, the Laboratory will be closed. University closures are announced on local radio and TV stations. The Laboratory will remain open if the public schools are cancelled, but CMU is still open.

Hours

Home Visits and Conferences

A beginning of the year home visit is scheduled with each family so that every child can meet their teachers in a comfortable setting. A second home visit is scheduled in the middle of the school year which gives the family and teacher an opportunity to discuss pertinent information, and for the teacher to gain insight into the child's development and interests. Two parent/teacher conferences are also scheduled during the school year. These give the parents and teachers an opportunity to discuss classroom activities and the child's progress.

Attendance

Regular attendance is important for your child's development and for the college classes utilizing the Laboratory school. Children are expected to come unless they are out of town, ill, or receiving other services during that time. If a child is absent, parents should call the Human Growth and Development Laboratory and report the reason for the absence (989/774-3760). We also request that parents contact ICTC (989/772-9441) if their child will be riding that day.

Withdrawal Policy

Children enrolled in the program are expected to attend the entire academic year. If a child is absent for three consecutive days without contact, the child's teacher will call. After five consecutive absences, the HGDL will send a letter reminding families of the withdrawal policy. If an absence remains unexplained for a period of ten consecutive day school days, the child will be withdrawn from the program. Preschool Program tuition fees which have not been paid by the fourth week of the semester will also result in the immediate withdrawal of a child from the program. Re-admission to any HGDL programs is at the discretion of HGDL administrators.

Tuition Payment Refund Policy

If a child needs to leave the program after they have already paid tuition, they may be eligible for partial tuition refund. However, there will be no refunds issued after March 1 of the current year.
